If your career is in flux, you should ask yourself whether you want to transition or transform. Your answer may impact how far you will take your career.

TRANSITIONTRANSFORMATION
SHORT TERM
Transitory; short-lived or temporary change.
PERMANENT
Enduring; unlikely to be reversed. (i.e. a butterfly can never go back to being a caterpillar).
CHANGE OF ROLE
A process that should result in a change of role or position.
CHANGE OF MINDSET
Open to exploring possibilities.
KNOWLEDGE OF PROCESS
Requires step-by-step knowledge of the conventional job-hunting process (i.e. job boards, social media, how to do a resume, etc)
KNOWLEDGE OF SELF
Requires knowledge and participation in a self discovery process.
HEAD
Intellectual. Often centred on intellectual logic based inquiry; less focused on desires and wants.
HEART
Requires connecting head to heart; merging abilities with passions.
REACTIVE
Goal is to get work and go to market NOW. Immediate, reactive; need to pay the bills. Rush to apply for all jobs. Sometimes driven by panic or fear. Run to something familiar.
PROACTIVE
Go to market when ready, apply for jobs after a self-discovery & branding process. Want to take control and become the CEO of your career. You want to land a fulfilling opportunity & realize potential. Requires connecting paycheque to your purpose.
WHAT CAN YOU DO? SKILLS FOCUS
Requires knowledge of what you CAN do. Marketing yourself to who needs your skills. Focus is on being able to do the job; “What’s in it for me?”
WHAT DO YOU WANT TO DO? VALUES FOCUS
Requires knowledge of your unique value & what separates you from peers. “What provides the most value for everyone?”
