We are very excited to announce our new Internship Program for Higher Landing GOA clients who have not yet landed.
The Higher Landing Unpaid Internship Program is sponsored by the Alberta government and is an initiative to help Higher Landing clients obtain unpaid work exposure, including hands-on aspects of a role. This program is designed to introduce Higher Landing-trained and Grizzly Certified professional candidates to the Alberta business community with an emphasis on career transformation. The intention of this program is to allow these individuals to demonstrate their value to participating organizations, while offering them an opportunity to learn and gain practical work experience in a new role or industry.
This program aims to facilitate job transition and re-employment in a new company or industry, while allowing candidates to acquire workplace and occupation related skills that will facilitate their attachment or re-attachment to the labour market. It is expected that candidates will be able to demonstrate existing hard and soft skills to participating organizations, while simultaneously being exposed to new learning opportunities.
Although the ideal goal is employment, employers are not obligated to retain the candidates after the internship period. At minimum, the Internship program is expected to provide the necessary exposure required to facilitate re-employment.
This is an initiative to rebuild the Alberta economy with exceptional talent that has been sidelined due to layoff and downsizing, while helping them transition and transform their careers with principles learned at Higher Landing.
Individuals who have completed the government sponsored Higher Landing Shuttle Program, are within the first 6 months of starting their program, are Grizzly Certified, and are ready, willing and able to work for the participating employer on a full-time, unpaid basis for up to 4 weeks. Individuals must also be able to financially support themselves for the duration of the internship. Higher Landing will make best efforts to recommend and match candidates who align with, and add value to, participating employers.
Employers looking for an opportunity to bring on talented, experienced professionals with transferable skills. Employers must also be willing to provide necessary basic training, guidance and/or mentorship while providing an opportunity to gain exposure to a new industry or role.
You are welcome to share this initiative with any prospective employers you feel would provide you with new work experience, but who may have a hiring freeze or cost objection. We will also be sharing this program with our Grizzly community and advising you if/when we have opportunities to share with you.
